Welcome & Service Team Member
The contract is part time and for a fixed term, and the hourly rate is £12.75. The employer, National Trust, is a charity. You will be based at Ickworth Estate, which is an estate, which could mean diversity in the role. Note some estates are far from public transport. It is located in Suffolk.

As the public face of our properties, you’ll provide a warm, friendly welcome, give information about the property, answer questions and make sure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable visit. We’re looking for someone to work within a bustling atmosphere who can engage with people and share their passion for the National Trust’s cause.
We are at our busiest when the public is as its leisure, please expect to work every other weekend and some national holidays.
Salary: £12.75 per hour - we’re currently undertaking our pay review process and it is likely that this salary will be increased from 1st April 2026.
Contract/duration: Fixed term until 30th September 2026
Hours/working pattern: This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes weekends and Bank Holidays but does not require evening or split shifts.

Reporting to the Welcome Manager and be part of a team of ten Welcome & Service Assistants based at Ickworth Estate.
You'll be based at an entrance kiosk and Welcome Point, greeting visitors as they arrive and talking to them about what they can see and do at Ickworth Estate and how they can support our conservation work. You will mainly be outdoors. There will be training and development opportunities to grow your career in the National Trust.

As a Welcome and Service Assistant, you’ll be an ambassador for Ickworth Estate and the National Trust, delivering a great all-round customer service experience. You’ll be on hand answering queries and listen to what our visitors need so you can share the right information. Your role is to make sure our visitors have the best day they can. You’ll have the chance to be involved in different aspects of the visitor experience, from key programming events to the day to day running of the Welcome Point – no two days are the same.
Great visitor experiences are in our nature, and we believe everyone should feel welcomed, appreciated and more engaged because of the excellent service you provide. You will confidently grow our membership base, lead volunteers, and deliver high standards of presentation, ensuring all our communications are clear and consistent. This role would suit anyone with enthusiasm for delivering great customer service.
